Course overview



A practical and theoretical training in the art of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage. On completion of the course students will have a good knowledge of how to give a full body Thai Massage treatment to practitioner standard.

The course consists of 12 lessons (72 training hours). Each lesson begins with a lecture and demonstration, followed by supervised practice.

After completing the course, the student will be asked to practice 30 case studies on 5 different people, and to return for a final practical examination as well as a short answer theory test. There will also be one written project to be completed during the course.

Anatomy and Physiology

Thai Yoga Massage does not require any Anatomy and Physiology knowledge as it is based on an energy line system. You will not require a qualification in Anatomy and Physiology in order to take this course. However, in order to get professional indemnity insurance,and to upgrade from student membership with ICNM to practitioner membership,  all students will need to have 55 hours of Anatomy and Physiology training and hold a recognised certificate. If you already are a yoga teacher, physio, personal trainer, massage therapist, nurse, doctor, osteopath or other complimentary therapist, your qualification may be enough. In this case you can check with your current insurer if they will be able to add Thai yoga massage to your current policy once you qualify or check that ICNM will recognise your A&P training as adequate. If you do not already hold an Anatomy and Physiology qualification, you are welcome to take our training and either take the A&P along side our course or afterwards. We do not offer A&P training but it is easy to find at most local colleges.

Syllabus

Lesson 1
: General background, history and theory. Showing of the video 'The Art of Traditional Thai Massage'. Feet. Massaging the feet and loosening up exercises, pressure points and ankle stretches.

Lesson 2
: Leg Lines. Palming and thumbing the energy lines on the legs. Practice

Lesson 3:ʉ۬Single Leg Stretches. Applying several yoga based stretches on one leg at a time. A blood stop to the legs which aids circulation and cleans the blood. Practice.

Lesson 4
: Double Leg Stretches. Applying several yoga-based stretches on both legs together. Practice.

Lesson 5: 
Stomach, Chest and Arms. Massaging these parts of the body, including points on the abdomen and chest, and a blood stop to the arms. Practice.

Lesson 6: 
Side Position. Working along the 3rd outside energy line on the leg, plus some stretches and two spinal twists, all applied with the patient lying on their side. Practice.

Lesson 7:ʉ۬Supervised practice.

Lesson 8:ʉ۬Back of Body. Walking on the feet, pressure points along the 2 main energy lines of the back, more leg stretches and cobra stretch. Practice.

Lesson 9
: Sitting Position. Massaging the shoulders and neck in the sitting position, including many shoulder and neck stretches and another spinal twist. Practice.

Lesson 10: 
Face. Massaging the face, including some therapeutic pressure points to treat various problems. Practice.

Lesson 11:ʉ۬Theory Day. Review of the 10 main energy lines (the Ten Sen), names, locations and therapeutic qualities. Comparison of Thai Yoga Massage with Chinese concepts of acupressure and Shiatsu. A sequence of techniques and therapeutic pressure points to treat and relieve headache, knee pain and lower back pain.

Lesson 12:ʉ۬Assessment Day. An opportunity to practice and receive a whole massage under supervision. Following the massage, the student will receive detailed feedback from the course tutor with advice, cautions and recommendations for future practice.

This course runs from 10am-5pm.

A one-day workshop designed to give a taste of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage.

This Introduction and taster to Thai Yoga massage is aimed both for:

• People who are considering a career as a practitioner of Thai Yoga Massage.
• Practitioners of other therapies who may want to add another skill.
• Yoga teachers, pilates teachers or personal trainers who want some skills to apply within their work.
• Individuals or couple’s wanting to learn to give their loved ones or friends a wonderful treat.

Everyone should have the basic skills and techniques to be able to give a partner/friend/child a simple and effective massage to help ease common everyday aches and pains, and to lovingly connect through touch.

The day will start with an introduction talk covering the basic history, background and theoretical foundation of Thai Yoga Massage, followed by a practical demonstration.

Throughout the day, you will learn to give a full foot massage, some applied yoga leg stretches, massage techniques for the back, neck and shoulders, and a relaxing face massage to finish.

Thai Yoga Massage is well known for its balancing and restorative qualities. The treatment is both relaxing and energising, and especially useful for relieving tension and pain.

Through massaging others, you’ll become aware of your own breath, and learn about the relationship between giving and receiving. The Thai Yoga Practitioner cultivates a centred state of being, becoming a vessel for the physical application of loving kindness that is at the heart of traditional TYM.

This day-workshop can be a cheeky present for your loved ones, as they will learn how to give you a wonderful massage!

There will be 5 days of training in Samos and the other 3 in London later in the year. This makes it up to the 8 days of advanced training (Modules 1-4) as for the London advanced course.

In Samos we have a day to arrive and the course starts the following day. There is a day off in the middle of the week to rest and explore the island. Classes start after breakfast at 10am-1pm and then start again at 5pm-8pm to allow whole afternoons to enjoy the stunning surroundings!

We provide breakfast and dinner. For lunch you can either walk to a local tavern or get some supplies from town and cook in your villa. There are fully equipped kitchens in each villa. We also put the left over food from dinner in a fridge by the bar and people are welcome to help themselves for lunch the following day.

There are 2 coves at the villas to swim from as well as the infinity pool.

The nearest beach is 15 minute walk and there is a beautiful waterfall walk around 20 minutes away. Two famous secluded beaches called Mikro Seitani and Megalo Seitani are both within walking distance from Marnei.

This two day workshop will focus on advanced techniques to open the hips plus many more advanced and dynamic moves for the front of the body including the famous "Russian Dance" which is a beautiful flowing sequence of exercises to relax and release the hips, lower back and sacrum while working the upper body.

This workshop will cover many wonderful and useful techniques that can be applied in the side position. This will include many new ways to work the shoulders and neck. You will learn to give a full Thai Yoga Massage in side position which is ideal for pregnancy. We will cover the main pregnancy issues that you may come across and how to work with them.

This workshop will explore upper body techniques and stretches to releive Back, shoulder and neck tension. We will learn new and effective ways to work on those areas in supine, side lying, prone and seated position as well as therapeutic points for those areas.

In this workshop, we will also be focussing on the Energy Lines by learning to trace each line and finding the important points that run along it. This knowledge allows us to work much more therapeutically. We will also cover how to work all the energy lines of the legs with our feet.

This way of working really saves your wrists from over straining and is a wonderful tool for working on bigger clients or people who want deeper pressure with no effort or strain.

Thai foot massage is a wonderful treatment that is both extremely relaxing and energising.

Day1: Wednesday 20th March  2024 10am-5pm  - Introduction, learning sequence.
Day 2: Wednesday 17th April 2024 10am-2pm - Revising sequence and assessment. 

Most courses that are offered are one day only but in that time, you just learn the sequence in parts and there is no chance to put it together or refine the new techniques learnt. Therefore we offer 2 day course which allows you to practise what you have learnt on the first day and then come back and put it all together with supervision and guidance.

Thai foot massage is a relatively new practise in Thailand. A group of Thai Masseurs studied reflexology with Chinese, Japanese and Korean reflexologists, and came up with their own system. It has only been practised in Thailand for 8-10 years at the most.

A bit like Thai Massage, Thai Foot massage is not diagnostic like reflexology, but it does cover all the reflex zones on the feet in each treatment.  There are lots of lovely techniques on the feet, some using oil with hands, and some using a wooden stick. The treatment  also works right up to the knee and covers in-depth massage on the lower legs.

The treatment you will learn, lasts 1 hour and is an effective and stimulating treatment on its own. You can also shorten it and add it on to the beginning or end of a Thai massage or other types of massages, to enhance your treatment even more.

This course counts as CPD hours and is affitlated and recognised by The Institute of Complementary and Natural Medicine (ICNM)

The course will be held over two days with time in between training days to practise.  You will be asked to practise 10 (1 hour) case studies in between the two training days.

Day 1: Introduction to Thai Foot Massage. Learning full sequence in 5 sections

• Opening movements and oil massage techniques using your hands
• Oil massage techniques using wooden stick
• Dry foot work with wooden stick, covering 23 points on the sole of the foot
• Oil massage techniques on lower leg and knee. Dry massage techniques on lower legs and feet, through towel
• Closing movements

Day 2:

AM: Revising sequence and practising

PM: Assessment- giving and receiving a full 1 hour treatment

Included in the course will be:

• A manual with step by step instructions and photos
•  A chart of the feet, depicting all the reflex zones
•  A wooden Thai foot massage stick

We will provide oil and wipes to use on the day.

 We would like to ask you to bring 2 medium sized towels for personal use to wrap your feet with, on the day. 

This workshop is designed to show you some techniques to use oil as part of a Thai yoga massage. This can enhance your treatments especially if you are treating people with back, shoulder and neck pain or stiffness. Also how to incorporate it into your treatment. Especially on back, neck and shoulders. Will also include more techniques to work the neck in lying down position at the end of the treatment either with or without oil.

Practitcal exam 10am-12pm (Please bring someone to massage for practical)
